Wang Jian - Director, BGIDr. Wang Jian is the director of BGI.

After graduation he conducted postdoctoral research in USA from 1988-1990 and worked as a senior research fellow at the University of Washington during 1990-1994. Here he acted as one of the main team leaders of management and decision-making for the genomic sequencing projects, leading the team to establish large-scale, high-throughput, and low-cost technique platforms. His current research interest includes the development of genomic and bioinformatic applications in various fields.

 

Huanming Yang - President and Professor, BGI

Dr. Yang Huanming earned his Ph.D. from Copenhagen University in 1988 and received his postdoctoral training in France (1988–1990) and the USA (1990–1994). He founded the BGI in 1999. Dr. Yang has received many awards and honors, including Research Leader of the Year by Scientific American in 2002 and an Award in Biology by the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in 2006. He was elected as a foreign member of EMBO in 2006, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007, and a fellow of TWAS in 2008.



Wang Jun
 - Professor of Genomics and Bioinformatics, BGI

Dr. Wang Jun graduated with a Ph.D. from the Peking University in 2002. In 1999, his efforts aided in the founding of the Bioinformatics Department of the Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI). Dr. Wang Jun has been leading the scientific direction and daily operations of BGI genomics and its bioinformatics sections since 2002. For the last 8 years he has been in charge of leading a research group of 100+ people engaged in studying genomics and developing essential bioinformatics tools.
